Residency FAQs

Artists who are serious about making ceramics their primary focus. It's for people who want to dig in, do the work, and be part of something real for at least a year.

Shared housing on the property. Electricity is the only utility cost, split equally among residents. You're expected to take care of shared spaces: keep them clean, be respectful of the people you're living with.

Active work in your studio: throwing, hand-building, glazing, surface work, or any practice directly connected to your art. It's not a checkbox. It's the expectation that this is your full-time focus.

It varies. Some weeks it's kiln maintenance or wood processing. Others it's helping with an event or landscaping. The work keeps the studio and property running and it's part of what makes the residency affordable.

You're responsible for sourcing your own wood. You can buy a National Forest Service permit to harvest softwood from Prescott National Forest. Mingus Mountain is the closest spot. You can also buy cords locally: pine runs $300–$400 and oak $400–$500 per cord in the Verde Valley area.

Renewals are decided together. We look at how things are going: the work, the community dynamic, and the health of the program overall. There's no automatic continuation, but there's also no arbitrary cut-off. If it's working, we talk about continuing.

No. Clay, glaze, dry materials, firing fuel, and kiln rental fees are all your responsibility, same as studio members. The Residency covers your studio space, housing, and shared equipment access.
