We are a community studio and a long-term ceramic residency for artists, who want time, continuity, and a real working environment to deepen their art.
After more than two decades in clay, studying across institutions and living inside different residency models, our owner, Jonah Fleeger, built Arizona Clay Space around what that experience revealed. Artists grow when the conditions are honest and stable. When expectations are clear, support is real, and there is enough time to let the work actually develop.
This is a place for people who show up and put in the work. Who want to settle in, fire wood- kilns, keep learning, and be part of a studio culture that feels real. Who understands that creative growth takes time, and that the kind of progress worth having rarely happens in a sprint.
Arizona Clay Space is not about performance or output for its own sake.
It's about process, continuity, and making room for the kind of evolution that only happens when artists have the freedom and the space to follow the work, wherever it leads.
A place where people can expand their artistic expression
The studio is intentionally small. Residents live and work on site. Local members create in a professional studio environment. Atmospheric firings let artists experiment and explore different techniques. Workshops and visiting artist opportunities bring in new skills and fresh perspectives. It’s the kind of meaningful connections that develop naturally when people make things together. When people share a studio, a week by a wood -kiln and a piece of land long enough, the rest takes care of itself.
We're here for artists who are committed to their practice, people who value independence, hold themselves accountable, and want to be part of a community built on mutual respect and shared effort. We strive to maintain a studio culture that is supportive and human.
